"Thank you for calling BHW."
As we close the books on the 2000 Fiscal Year, I am pleased to report that your dedicated efforts at preserving quality patient care in a challenging environment are paying off. Let me be the first to offer my sincere appreciation for all that you have accomplished this past year. There are many achievements we can look back at with pride. For the eighth consecutive year, Brigham and Women’s Hospital was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s very best places to receive care. Additionally, BWH once again made the HCIA Top 100 hospital list - the only hospital to do so in each of the survey’s seven years. These accolades are not accidental. They are derived from hard work, commitment and a passion for what we do. At the core of our mission is the strengths that each of you bring to this organization. These are historically difficult times for hospitals in Boston and throughout the nation. This week The Boston Globe reported that a full 43 percent of hospitals are losing money in the United States. We see the evidence of these circumstances all around us. As a result, we can anticipate that current challenges will persist for the foreseeable future. However, we have been successful at meeting those challenges head on in the past and I have every confidence that we will continue to succeed in the future. Demand for our services has never been higher. The strength of our network has never been greater. I am positive that our hospital can only become stronger in the face of adversity. Thank you for your continued efforts at making this hospital uniquely positioned to take on the challenges, as well as the great promises of medicine. We have a real and defined mission to save lives and improve the health of all citizens, and your contributions continue to make BWH a special place to work and receive care.
